Attending summer school, gain knowlege and enjoy fun!

Last week I attended a summer school in Magdeburg, Germany, from August 28 to September 1, 2017, which is called 5th Summer School of the IMPRS Magdeburg for Advanced Methods in Process and Systems Engineering. This year the summer school  focused on the currently intensively investigated topic of  "Decision making and uncertainty. "

The International Max Planck Research School (IMPRS) is jointly organized by the Max Planck Institute for Dynamics of Complex Technical Systems and the Otto-von-Guericke University Magdeburg.

More information about this summer school you can go through this link:http://www.mpi-magdeburg.mpg.de/summerschool . It is held every two years.

Here are scientific programs at a glance, if you are interested in any one of the lectures, you can leave me a comment and I can send you the PDF handouts.

Apart from the intensive courses, the organizer also prepared social events for us almost everyday.  I had opportunities to meet more PhD students and  make new friends. That was an amazing experience.

The following are some nice photos about Magdeburg city, which is one hour and half by train from Berlin.  It is a charming city along the river, which is also worthy visiting,

Lessons that I learned from my first PhD poster presentation

Last month, I attended  the PhD day in BAM together with other three ESRs (Xin Wang,Joyraj Chakraborty,Imane Bayane). I presented my poster here based on my paper "Damage detection and deteriorating structural systems". I got some comments and feedback that I would like to share with all of you in this post. Preparing your welcoming sentenceAt first, I just stood besides my poster and I was thinking people may ask me if they have any questions. But the truth is if you don't speak, viewers will quickly pass through your poster and move to the next stand. So it is better to take the initiative to talk to others. It may be little embarrassing for you at the beginning, but you have to be brave to sell yourself and your ideas.
If you prepare a good welcoming sentence, things will become much easier. Since my poster is about quantification the damage detection value of a bridge to help make better decision, so I opened my speech with the sentence like: Do you want t…

Thanks million times :) )) Meanwhile, an article described our project is published on BAM's home webpage. You can read through Research trainees on the trail of concrete fatigue . Thanks a lot to my lovely colleague Rebekka Gabler for the interview and the article:D
Hope all you have fun watching the video as well as reading the article!
